About Second Round Woodworking

Second Round Woodworking started with my love of bourbon and the building of a flight board, to enhance my bourbon experience with friends. I feel immense joy when I am working in my shop, where the pressures of the outside world melt away and the only things that matter are the accurate cut of a piece of walnut, the smooth sanding of a board, the application of a finish, and the buffing of a final product. It's a feeling similar to the vibe I get when going up to the bar for that second round. Settled in with friends, we are one drink into a great conversation and excited to keep that great energy going.
This is also my 'second round' in what has been a professional life filled with joy and satisfaction. After 30 years in public education, I am taking woodworking, my longtime mental escape, and putting it front and center, sharing it with others with the same joy and engagement that I shared with students and colleagues during ‘round one.’ While the outcomes of my work in the second round will be very different from the first, I hope they contribute to the increased well being and happiness of the people they serve. Cheers!
